I loved The Good Place. If you haven’t seen it, I advise you to drop my blog now and go binge watch it like I did. In short, Eleanor (Kristen Bell) dies and goes to the afterlife called The Good Place, a surreal paradise where everyone is good and noble.. and Eleanor is not. Don’t google it, because you’re likely to run into spoilers, go into it blind.
But do you know what surprised me most about this show? (other than everything in the plot) It’s the clothing. They’re very fashion forward in heaven, you apparently have access to all the Ted Baker-knock offs you could ever desire. In particular, one person clearly stands out: Tahani Al-Jamil played by Jameela Jamil. Jameela is built like a goddess (no pun intended) and she’s 1.8m tall so the stylists have her fitted out in statuesque bodycon dresses, which most of us mere mortals cannot do.
Let’s follow dive deep. Dresses, dresses everywhere.
Episode 1
We’re introduced to Tahani and her soulmate JianYu. This is where Tahani is full of nose boops. Lucky for everyone around her, those dropped off quickly. Also did I mention that heaven is full of Ted Baker-patterned dresses?
Don’t worry, you haven’t seen the last of this yellow dress. It pops up again later on in the season.
In case you were wondering, yes Jameela and Ted Danson can both rock a Charlie Brown stripe.
Episode 2
The stylists quickly realised she looks amazing in yellow
I would also have that face if I had to pick up garbage in a white, silktop. Have mercy people.
Episode 3
Tahani rarely wears black, only to will-readings and neighbourly visits apparently.
Shades of Amal Clooney. That’s a $37 ASOS dress by the way. I wouldn’t have been able to tell.
All ye who are allergic to florals should probably just close your browser now.
It’s yellow, it’s floral, it’s cute. When you’re onto a good thing..
Episode 4
I also noticed that they loooooove to put her in an off-shoulder. As for this outfit, I don’t know that many people who could pull this off. She does.
The gloves they make the outfit. I really love this dress period.
Episode 5
Another amazing dress, which.. changes colour according to the light?
Seriously, the dress is blue in this scene. Unless she’s like me and has the same dress in eight different colours.
Flashback time. I sort of prefer the curly hair. Also it’s millennial pink before there was millennial pink.
Speaking of flashbacks, Tahani is wearing a black dress with parrots (!) to the will reading. Meanwhile her sister has green lipstick on. Some might say it takes away from the sombreness of the occasion.
On the other hand, her parents did accidentally spell her name as Tahini in official documents so they probably deserved that evil eye she’s giving off.
Episode 6
Can someone please give her stylists awards for amazing consistency?
And her makeup artist please.
Episode 7
You can’t see it here, but she has perfectly co-ordinated her outfit to the rainbow macarons (next to the retire-mint chocolate cake and the flan voyage).
This was not one of my favourites, but you know it’s floral and off the shoulder..
Episode 8
Most of the clothes they’ve dressed her in is ASOS stuff, but it never, ever looks like it. It’s some sort of miracle (no pun intended again).
Episode 9
I love this dress so much.
And this even more.
Here’s a better look at it. We’re finally moving into actual Ted Bakers. It’s as if NBC woke up at Episode 9 (!) and remembered to give them wardrobe budget.
Episode 10
Another Ted Baker for your perusal.
With washed out sideview. This entire pattern is very Cath Kidston but it works.
Episode 11
This however needs a strong hoik. But good job on the lipstick/flower matching,
In a season full of outstanding outfits on Jameela, I think this combo is my favourite. That colour absolutely pops on her.
We come back full circle to the beautiful yellow dress from the beginning. Do you want to see the shoes? We rarely see Tahani’s footwear because she’s so tall.
That wasn’t what I was expecting. Leopard print heels are a bold choice for a lemon coloured dress with pearls.
Episode 12 and 13
And that is the last dress for the season, she had two straight episodes in this outfit. Still pretty nice though.
What do you think? Are you now inspired to go for an ASOS run? Or are you a Ted Baker fan through and through?
